III SIMCAM: International Symposium on Cognition and Musical Arts

The Music School  from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and the Brazilian Association of Cognition and Musical Arts are pleased to invite you for the III SIMCAM: International Symposium on Cognition and Musical Arts, to be held in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil between May 21st and May 25th, 2007. Salvador is a touristic city in Northeast Brazil, known for its beauty, regional food, and music.

The International Symposium on Cognition and Musical Arts is a scientific forum of an interdisciplinary nature. Its focus lies on the discussion and dissemination of new, unpublished research on the cognitive processes and mechanisms underlying the perception and production of all musical arts.

Key-note speakers will be Drs. Aaron Williamon (Royal College of Music) and Daniel Levitin (McGill University).

During the symposium, the following themes will be discussed:

 

1. The mind and the perception of musical arts

2. The mind and the production of musical arts

3. Musical arts, linguistics, semiotics and cognition

4. Tecnology, musical arts and the mind

5. Musical arts and social cognition

6. The parallel development of musical arts and the mind

 

PAPER SUBMISSION

Submissions are invited for:

 

1. Spoken papers

2. Poster presentations

3. Demonstrations

 

The deadline for submission to SIMCAM is January 15th, 2007. The conference languages are Portuguese and English. Papers in Spanish and French will also be accepted, although the organizing committee cannot guarantee simultaneous translations in these idioms during the symposium.

 

Editorial Issues:

All submitted papers, posters and demonstration sessions should be sent to the Scientific Committee of SIMCAM. All submitted works will be evaluated using a blind peer-review process. Submissions should not be longer than 6 pages (typed, single space, font Times New Roman), including title and abstract (250 to 500 words in length), in APA style. Author name(s) are not to appear anywhere in the submitted paper, and should be included only in the Submission Form.

For empirical papers, headings should include:

For theoretical/review papers, headings should include:

Proceedings of SINCAM

Abstracts of accepted works will be published in the symposium program. Six-page papers will be published in the Proceedings of SIMCAM in CD-ROM, complete with ISBN. Printed versions of the Proceedings may be produced, pending on the availability of resources.
Details of the procedure and format for submitting final papers will be provided when authors receive notification of acceptance. All registered SINCAM attendees will receive one copy of the Proceedings. Additional copies will be available for a small fee during the Symposium.
